SECTION 2: TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE

The TWH was traditionally called a Plantation Horse. In this division PLANTATION REFERS TO THE TRADITIONAL ASPECT OF THE TWH, AND DOES NOT REFER TO THE WAY IT IS SHOD. For each class the prize list must indicate whether the horse is Light Shod or Heavy Shod (e.g. Plantation Pleasure, Heavy Shod). A Plantation Pleasure horse must be shown with a light rein at all times, and is judged as a pleasurable riding horse.
a. APPOINTMENTS
1. Bridle shall be English type using a snaffle, Kimberwick, or a Walking Horse Bit using a single pair of reins. Bits must be of a humane nature. Excessively severe mouthpieces (e.g. twisted wire) and gag bits of any kind prohibited. The judge may disallow any bit he foals is not of a humane nature. Shanks on a Walking Horse Bit are measured from the mouthpiece to the and of the shank and must not exceed 5 inches.
2. With Saddle Suit Attire, coloured browbands are appropriate, but sequined browbands are not allowed. Braids and ribbons are mandatory.
3. Martingales and tiedowns are prohibited.
4. Saddle must be a English type: cut-back show, all-purpose, dressage, or sidesaddle. No forward seat saddles.
5. Side saddle habit or Saddle Suit of conservative colour with snap brim or derby hat is mandatory. Gloves are optional. Jodhpur boots with heels mandatory. See PART IV, Section 9, Rule c. Formal dress consisting of dark blue or black tuxedo- type jacket with matching jodhpur pants, bow tie, and Derby may be worn in evening classes.
6. English spurs and whips up to 41 inches are optional.
b. CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH or AGE OF HORSE. To be shown at a flatfoot walk, running walk, and canter. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above.

TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE JUNIOR HORSE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS: Open to horses 4 years and under. To be shown at. a flatfoot walk, and running walk. NO CANTER. A Horse who enters a junior horse class may not enter a three gait classes at the same show. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above.

TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE TWO GAIT: OPEN TO ALL HORSES OF ANY AGE WHO HAVE NOT MASTERED THE CANTER. This class may be further divided as to age of competitors, horses, sex of riders, etc. To be shown at the flatfoot walk and running walk. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, rule m above. This horse may NOT enter a three gait class at the same show, although the rider is still eligible for entry in a three gait class.
TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP: To be eligible, horses must be entered, shown, and judged in any other TWH Plantation Pleasure Class requiring the same gaits. There is a charge for this class. To be shown at a flatfoot walk, running, walk, canter OR flatfoot walk and running walk. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above. Stripping of horses is mandatory.
SECTION 3: TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE

a. APPOINTMENTS
1. Saddle Suit appointments as listed under TWH PLANTATION PLEASURE Section 2, Rule a above.
2. Traditional English (Mandatory in all Hack Classes)
a. Bridle shall be English using a pelham, snaffle, or kimberwick bit. Any bit not mentioned is prohibited. Double bridles are permitted.
b. English saddle of any type.
c. Martingales, breastplates, boots, or bandages prohibited.
d. Dropped nosebands prohibited.
a. Browbands leather, but NOT solid white, coloured or sequined.
f. Black jacket or dark coat, top hat, bowler hat, or hunting cap, white of light tan breaches, white hunting stock, black boots. Gloves recommended.
g. Whip up to 41 inches, crops, and English spurs optional.

b. QUALIFYING GAITS
1. Flat Walk, Running Walk, and Canter as described in PART II.
2. Collected Canter — the horses’ strides are shorter, but the horse is lighter and more mobile. The horse is on the bit, exhibiting lightness on the forehand and engagement of the hind and.
3. Hand Gallop — under control performed with long free ground covering strides. This is a true lengthening of stride, correct and straight on both leads. Extreme speed to be penalized. Only 8 to gallop at one time. Horses to be shown at the flatfoot walk, running walk, and canter both ways of the ring unless the class specifies otherwise. Mounting and dismounting, and rein back may be required either individually or in a group. Obedience to the rider is of prima importance.

c. CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE ROAD HACK: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH or LADIES or GENTLEMEN: the horse should give an appearance of overall substance with refinements. Soundness is required and blemishes may be penalized if leading to unsoundness. Traditional English tack mandatory. To be shown at the flatfoot walk, running walk, canter, collected canter and hand gallop. TO BE JUDGED: as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE SHOW HACK: OPEN or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH or LADIES or GENTLEMEN — to show vitality, animation, presence, balance, soundness, giving an overall picture of elegance. Blemishes to be penalized. Traditional English Tack mandatory. To be shown at flatfoot walk, running walk, canter, collected canter, and hand gallop. TO BE JUDGED: as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE HUNTER HACK: OPEN or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH or LADIES or GENTLEMEN — Traditional English tack. Hard hat with safety harness is mandatory. No whip longer then 30 inches. To be shown at flat walk, running walk, and canter both ways of ring. MAY be asked to hand gallop. To demonstrate jumping ability, horses will be asked to jump one or two widely separated fences not exceeding 3 feet. TO BE JUDGED: as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m. The horse must show smooth hunting pace, sure footedness, fluidness and courage.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH, or AGE OF HORSE. Saddlesuit appointments or Traditional English appointments. To be shown at a flatfoot walk, running walk, and canter. Required to rein back. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE JUNIOR HORSE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS — Open to horses 4 years and under. Saddlesuit appointments or Traditional English appointments. To be shown at the flatfoot walk and running walk both ways of the ring. Rider will be required to rein back. A horse who enters a junior horse class may NOT enter a three gait class at the same show although the rider is still eligible. To be judged as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE TWO GAIT: OPEN TO ALL HORSES OF ANY AGE WHO HAVE NOT MASTERED THE CANTER. This class may be further divided as to age of competitors, horses, sex of riders, etc. Saddlesuit appointments or Traditional English appointments. To be shown at the flatfoot walk and running walk both ways of the ring. TO BE JUDGED: as described in Part IV, Section 1, Rule m above. This horse may NOT enter a three gait class at the same show, although the rider is still eligible for entry into a three gait class.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE SADDLE HORSE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH — Saddlesuit appointments or Traditional English appointment. A Pleasure Saddle Horse must show obedience to al) commands, stand quietly, back readily, and stop as required. To be shown at the flatfoot walk, running walk, and canter. Gaits may be called in any order as long as the flatfoot walk is used as a transition gait. In the lineup rider must and mount and dismount, and back.
TO BE JUDGED: 45% performance, 40%. manners, l5% conformation. Pulling on bit, head tossing, breaking stride, travailing in a sideways motion, and wringing tail shall be penalized.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE SADDLE HORSE TWO GAIT: OPEN TO HORSES OF ANY AGE WHO HAVE NOT MASTERED THE CANTER- This class may be further divided as to age of horse or competitor. To be shown and judged as described above with the exception that there will be no canter. This horse may not enter a three gait class at the same show, although the rider is still eligible for entry.

TWH ENGLISH PLEASURE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS: To be eligible, horses must be entered, shown, and judged in any other TWH English Pleasure Class requiring the same gaits. To be shown at a flatfoot walk, running, walk, canter OR flatfoot walk and running walk. TO BE JUDGED: in the same manner as the qualifying classes. Stripping of horses is mandatory.

TWH ENGLISH OBSTACLE COURSE: OPEN or MARES or STALLIONS or GELDINGS or JUNIOR HORSE or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or YOUTH- Horses to be shown over and through obstacles. Saddlesuit appointments or Traditional English appointments. Rider permitted more then one mount. Pattern to be posted at least 1 hour prior to class. The course must consist of at least 6 obstacles and flatfoot walk, running walk, and canter must be used at least once between obstacles. Exception: the Junior horse will not be required to canter. Obstacles may include gate, bridge, logs, water hazard, ground tie, carrying of an object, back up through L, put on and remove slicker, lead over obstacle, mail box. TO BE JUDGED: 70% performance with emphasis on manners, 30% conformation and suitability.

SECTION 4. TWH HUNTER OVER FENCES

a. GENERAL
A consistent, even safe hunter pace, manners, and soundness are to be emphasized. Excessive speed will be penalized. Hunter Pace is defined as a longer flowing canter with enough speed and impulsion to meet and take each jump giving the appearance of grace and ease. It should be maintained throughout the course, including the beginning circle. The ideal hunter will meet each fence at the proper takeoff spot for a perfect arc over the obstacle. Its’ jump will be snappy and athletic with the forearms held at or above a parallel line to the ground. The joints of the front lags are tucked tightly in front of the chest, and the neck and back arched over the fence. Faults consist of knockdowns, extra circle, and refusals. Eliminations are third refusals, off course, fall of horse and/or rider, jumping out of order, and jumping before jump or jumps are reset.

b. APPOINTMENTS: as described in PART IV, Section 3, Rule a (2) above. Hard hats with safety harness mandatory.

c. CLASS PROCEDURE

Course must be posted 1 hour prior to class. The show committee MAY allow the competitor to walk the course without their horse prior to the class. This is a hunter course and it is suggested that the jumps be hunter type. A practice jump must be available in a safe place outside the arena. A course consists of eight jumps, of at least four different obstacles. An obstacle may be jumped more that once. Jumps may be from 24 inches to 36 inches. There will be at least two changes of lead. Each competitor should make a full circle at the canter prior to the first jump.

d. CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
TWH HUNTER OVER FENCES: OPEN or MAIDEN HORSE and/or RIDER, or NOVICE HORSE and/or RIDER, or LADIES or GENTLEMEN or YOUTH — to be shown and judged as described above.
